My Prefix - De la
Roche is French, translated it means - Of The Rock - This has special
connotations for me as I decided that my breeding would be solid as a rock in
temperament and health, but I also wanted to be able to breed what I
considered to be beautiful type - the type seen in Europe - the country of
origin...But I regress...In the beginning...
My first look at this beautiful
breed was about 17 years ago when my husband and I went to the RSPCA. There
we saw a beautiful longhaired black dog which we were told was a German
Shepherd cross Labrador. We took her home with us and very quickly decided
that she needed to be obedience trained. So, off we went to the local club,
where a lady came up to me exclaiming “Oh what a beautiful Belgian”. And
the rest as they say is History.
After Buddy, we decided not to have a
dog for a while, but after about two years, I wanted another dog and it
had to be a Belgian – no other dog would do. This time we went to a breeder
were we obtained Jessica (Merrytar Jessica CD). She was such a wonderful
girl, that once in a lifetime dog.
Jessica cemented my love of this amazing
breed, her loyalty and devotion went beyond mere companionship, and her
only real aim in life seemed to be to please me. She was not only my constant
companion but also my children’s. Jessie sadly passed away in September
2001 from a suspected brain tumor. She is still sorely missed by all who
knew her.
Beau (LaBarrique La
Karu) sent to me in
September 2001, just prior to my Jessie's symptoms becoming apparent, was a godsend. My
little man
helped me get over the loss of my beautiful black girl. Beau is such a
sweetie and such a smoocher – always the first to greet me when I come home.
He’s my main man and takes over the bed whenever possible.
With my Jessica gone I
needed to have another Black girl in my life, hence the introduction into my
household in 2002 of our beautiful foundation bitch, Niki (Murrybel Darque
Nikata).
The decision to step into
minefield of breeding, was finally taken with the purchase of Niki, nearly
thirteen
years after our initial introduction to the breed. I knew I was done for, after
I had looked about me and decided no other breed would ever do for me.
